Task:
Create a name and visual identity for a Ukrainian specialty coffee brand exported to the US and Canada, with a focus on the emotional connection of the Ukrainian diaspora to their homeland.
The brand needed to stand out on the specialty market, yet feel warm, meaningful, and easy to relate to — especially for those who seek a taste of home abroad.
Solution:
I developed the name Malva, inspired by the mallow flower — a poetic symbol of Ukraine and nostalgia. The word is simple and pleasant to pronounce for English speakers while carrying cultural and emotional depth.
Visually, I built a bold and soulful identity using vibrant petal-like shapes, referencing both the malva flower and the structure of the coffee flavor wheel — a nod to the sensory richness of the product. The dominant fuchsia tone symbolizes the intensity of flavor and emotional memory.
